Local Prominent Business Leaders Emerge to 'Lend a Hand' to Hospital<< View All Press Releases
Health of the Hospital Continues to Receive Support
Mee Memorial Hospital and its Board of Trustees announced this morning that, after an aggressive search process, two formidable candidates for new Board members have come forth. These emerging candidates include Jeff Pereira and Roger Borzini. Mr. Pereira is a life-long resident of King City and its current mayor, and Mr. Borzini is currently a long-time member of the Mee Memorial Hospital Foundation.
As part of the Board’s by-laws, these two outstanding local leaders will have their candidacy considered at the next scheduled Board meeting, which will take place in early January 2008. At that time, the current Board, now consisting of six local civic/businessmen, will follow their by-laws to review and evaluate the applications. A vote will take place that time.
It has been a long search for applicants, and after many months of not receiving any letters of application or obtaining only initial interest from civic/business people who, as it turns out, could not devote the enormous amount of time and energy required to be a 21st century hospital board member, the Board decided to send official requests for applicants to the City Council of King City, as well as the Hospital’s Foundation (from where most current Board members formerly served).
“We are more than pleased to have received these letters of interest [application] from such prominent members of the community,” states Walt Beck, president and chief executive officer of Mee Health Systems and Mee Memorial Hospital. “This has been an arduous process, which has been even more compounded in the last few months given the hospital’s [current] financial situation. Continuing to receive such commitment and support from our community and its business leaders even further helps ensure the hospital’s long-term success. Now, that’s a great present during this time of year!”
Once candidates are elected to the Board, they serve a minimum of a three-year term. Led by Chairman Joseph Grebmeier, the Board meets once a month in King City and is responsible for overseeing all facilities within the Mee Health Systems. The Board adopts rules, regulations and policies governing the hospital and has authority over the medical staff, use of property, fiscal and human resources management.
Other existing Mee Board of Trustees members include:
Craig Wiley
Vice Chairman
Frank "Mickey" Hearne
Secretary/Treasurer
John Myers
Trustee
Fred Ledesma
Trustee
Robert Eddington
Trustee
The search for at least one more civic/business leader willing and able to take on the responsibility of becoming a Trustee will actively continue.
“Because some of the basic main requirements to serve as a Trustee are to have roots in this area and be a civic or business leader in order to gain the depth of understanding of today’s challenges and opportunities – including the ongoing need for accessible, quality healthcare – this news is vital to our success. We are proud to have these outstanding citizens willing and able to accept the challenge,” adds Beck.
