Representatives from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations conduct unannounced surveys of this and most hospitals.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations is an independent, not-for-profit, national body that oversees the safety and quality of health care and other services provided in accredited organizations.

The Joint Commission addresses all complaints that pertain to patient safety or quality-of-care issues within the scope of Joint Commission standards.
