Millions of dollars are available through government and private foundations
King City Rustler, May 19, 2010
Suzi Taylor of King City has been named as contact grant writer for Mee Memorial Hospital. Lex Smith, Mee Memorial CEO, made the announcement recently.
“Mee Memorial is really in a unique position,” Smith said. “We are what is called a sole community health care provider in our area – the only hospital within a 50-mile radius. We also provide health care for a population categorized as medically under-served. This gives us an advantage, as more grants have been recently made available for small rural hospitals for improving facilities and equipment, as well as recruiting medical staff.
“We felt this was an untapped area of financial resources and we needed a seasoned pro, dedicated to pinpointing and securing available funding. Getting a grant is hard work. Finding and obtaining the money to accomplish our goals is really an art. It’s a competition. There are millions of dollars of money for rural health care programs, unfortunately, most facilities don’t have the time or training to compete for this money.”
With more than 10 years experience as a grant writer, Taylor will be able to combine her expertise with a knowledge of the community and a desire to obtain funding for the hospital. “I am looking forward to writing grants for Mee Memorial,” said Taylor. “I have always been a strong supporter of the hospital and its clinics and programs. We have strong community backing which I think can be partnered with grant funds to assist with programs, equipment and other advancements for the hospital.”
Taylor has a specific expertise in grant writing and has been serving South County organizations, specifically non-profits, with a track record of bringing in over $1 million last year in funds for local groups. She will be in charge of researching grant availability, determining grant appropriateness writing, documenting and supporting submissions, monitoring, site visits and follow up.
